Standard Hotel

The Standard Hotel is comprised of four boutique hotels. One is in Miami, Florida, another is in New York City and two are located in California, one in Hollywood and the other in downtown Los Angeles.

Historical Background

The first of these boutique hotels opened in 1999 at the Sunset Strip at West Hollywood in California (near the Chateau Marmont). The place is renowned for its avant-garde style. The hotel was opened by Andre Balazs Properties, which still runs the place. The edifice was a retirement home until it was bought and renovated by Balazs.

Among the early investors in the project were Benicio del Toro, Cameron Diaz and Leonardo DiCaprio. Aside from the unique style, the hotels are also known for the upside down logo.

The Downtown Standard Hotel

The Downtown Standard is situated in what used to be the Superior Oil Company Building. It is well known for the pool at the roof. The rooms are Medium (from $245), Large (from $265), Double Standard (from $285,) X-Large (from $285), Huge (from $325), Gigantic (from $350), Humongous (from $400), Wow! (from $525), Big Penthouse (from $1150) and Bigger Penthouse (from $1300).

The prices will be based on single or double room occupancy.
The hotel is located at 550 South Flower at Sixth Street, Los Angeles CA 90071.

Hollywood Standard

This is the very first of the four boutique hotels to open. The rooms include budget ($160), Large ($215), Sunset ($175), X-Large ($215), Medium from $199 and Suite from $300.

The hotel is located at 8300 Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood California 90069. The edifice was originally the Thunderbird Hotel. it was transformed into the boutique hotel when Balazs bought and redesigned it. The first office of Nylon magazine was opened here.

Spa Miami Beach

The rooms include Dry (Medium & Large) from $239, Lush (Medium & Large) from $279, Wet (Medium, Large, & X-Large) from $319 and Full Spread from $539. There is no smoking allowed except for the designated areas. Flip-flops and swimsuits are mandatory for the baths.

For hotel guests, two day visitors are allowed for every room. the guests will need to get day passes to use the gym and indoor baths. But they are allowed access to the swimming pool outside. Non-members and visitors can go to the Lido Restaurant and Bayside Grill freely. The hotel is at 40 Island Avenue Miami Beach Florida 331.

New York Standard

The New York Standard opened in 2008. It is found at 848 Washington at 13th Street, NY. It has a modern style somewhat like Le Corbusier. It is also famous for its span at High Lane. It has a restaurant called the Standard Grill. It serves American delicacies and opened on June 2009.

The rooms include Standard Queen, Liberty Corner King, Standard King, Hudson Studio, Superior Queen, Liberty Suite, Deluxe King, Empire Suite and Empire Corner King. The prices of the rooms are subject to the availability.

The Standard Hotel boutique hotels have become some of the most recognizable boutique hotels in the US. Their unique designs have made them very popular and sought after.
